After reaching the NFC Championship Game, the Detroit Lions are aiming for a Super Bowl participation in 2024.

The Lions entered the 2023 NFL season with high expectations, and they delivered as they won the NFC North and made a long postseason run.

Although the Detroit Lions came short of defeating the San Francisco 49ers, the team can be proud of how they performed on both ends.

Their offense proved capable of holding up in the playoffs, thanks in large part to offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who has established himself as one of the league’s greatest play-callers.

Despite garnering interest in head coaching roles, Johnson unexpectedly chose to remain in Detroit and make another run with the team.

According to Max Bultman of The Athletic, Johnson demonstrated his commitment to the area during the offseason by attending a Detroit Red Wings game.

“Lions OC Ben Johnson on the goal horn today,” Bultman wrote.

Johnson was the reported front-runner for the Washington Commanders’ head coaching position, but he backed out at the last minute.

It was a surprising decision given how highly sought he was, but it demonstrates his commitment to putting the Lions on top.

The OC has multiple weapons at his disposal in Detroit, and he likely believed that staying put was his best chance of winning the Super Bowl.

It will be interesting watching to see if it was the right decision, but there’s no doubt that he and the Lions will be a force to be reckoned with next year.
