Michigan will have another quarterback available this fall.

The NCAA has granted Jack Tuttle, the club’s backup last year behind Big Ten quarterback of the year J.J. McCarthy, a waiver and cleared him to play in 2024, team spokesperson Dave Ablauf informed MLive over the weekend.

Tuttle hinted at the news late Saturday, releasing a one-minute video on social media with the message, “So many memories and fantastic people. “The trip continues. This season will be his seventh in college.

Tuttle, who will be 25 in April, informed MLive following Michigan’s national title win in January that he was pursuing a medical waiver to play another year. He redshirted his rookie season at Utah in 2018, used his free year of eligibility in 2020 at his second stop, Indiana, and only played one game in 2022 due to injury.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback also played through an injury at Michigan. He suffered a dislocated left shoulder against UNLV, his first game as a Wolverine, and missed the following two. When Tuttle returned, he tore the top part of his UCL in his right elbow, which he said would necessitate surgery and limit his mobility.

Still, he stated that he was available if necessary. In six seasons, the San Marcos, Calif., native has yet to play a full season, either due to injury or failing to secure the starting job. He will have the opportunity to do so this offseason, as Michigan searches for a full-time starter.
In addition to Tuttle, the Wolverines return three other scholarship quarterbacks: redshirt sophomores Alex Orji and Jayden Denegal, and senior Davis Warren. They also have four-star prospect Jadyn Davis on school and registered, making him a viable option.
The group will continue to work with Kirk Campbell, who has been promoted to offensive coordinator and will take over play-calling duties under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore.
