NFL Scout Said JJ McCarthy “Would Be Joe Burrow” Unless Michigan Was More Pass-Heavy.

JJ McCarthy, a Michigan quarterback, is one of the most tough draft prospects to grade. He has only lost one game with the Wolverines in two years as a starter. He also led the team to the national championship. McCarthy was helped by a good defense and a powerful running game, but many questioned if he could make it in the NFL.Scouts rate him highly, with one comparing him to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

JJ McCarthy Compared To Joe Burrow

On the Matt Barrie Show, ESPN’s Matt Miller shared insights from NFL scouts. One scout compared J.J. McCarthy to Joe Burrow if he played for a team that threw the ball.” Apparently, many scouts are very high on McCarthy.

“There’s a lot of love for J.J. McCarthy among the scouting community. He’s tough as hell. He’s got a big arm. He’s a very good athlete and he’s coachable.”

Miller previously stated that one NFL executive admired him for his mobility, toughness, winning mentality, and ability to make accurate throws. McCarthy appears to be on the rise, despite popular belief.

Tough Decision

During McCarrthy’s tenure, Michigan frequently led by a significant margin.Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards dominated behind an outstanding offensive line, thus passing was unnecessary. McCarthy did make some solid throws, but they were few and far between. In the national championship game, he completed only 10 passes as Michigan dominated the whole game. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if a team drafts him in order to sit him for a few seasons.

Where will J.J. McCarthy be drafted? His NFL Combine scores will most likely provide further insight into what teams are thinking about the Michigan quarterback.
