5-star Ohio State football prospect provides vital hint regarding Buckeyes commitment

Following another strong season, Ohio State’s football program continues to grow.

The Buckeyes have a highly heralded Class of 2024 recruit group entering the team, and 5-star safety Trey McNutt’s comments suggest that their 2025 class may grow even larger.

McNutt visited Ohio State over the weekend and was impressed with the team’s offerings.

“They’re a possible match. “Their standard for themselves is very high,” McNutt told On3.

It appears that the excellent safety recruit understands Ohio State’s culture. It would be interesting to see what ultimate decision he makes before starting his senior year.

Trey McNutt has offers from several elite Division 1 colleges, several of which are in the Big Ten. His selections are Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan, and USC. The Shaker Heights High School junior recently completed an outstanding 2023 season.

McNutt recorded 61 tackles, three for a loss, 12 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. The 5-star safety’s calling card is defense, but he also contributes significantly on offense. He ended the season with 611 yards and 12 touchdowns. His versatility should benefit him at the collegiate level.

Trey McNutt would make an excellent addition to Ohio State’s Class of 2025 recruiting class. His football ability would greatly benefit the program, but his off-the-field abilities are also noteworthy. McNutt’s mother, LaToya, shone as she spoke of his accomplishments and impact on others.

“Trey is just doing great things on and off the field,” his mom told On3. “And so, just seeing him reap some of the fruits and notoriety – he doesn’t seek it out, but to see it come his way, those are blessings. It’s a blessing, and I could not be more proud of him. I’m excited for him and the chances that await him, as well as for our family. He is an inspiration, and he wishes to inspire children.

Will McNutt find himself in Columbus in 2025 as Ohio State reloads for the future?

Ohio State football looks to continue short and long-term success

Carlos Locklyn, a former Oregon football assistant, became one of Ohio State’s most notable offseason coaching hires. Locklyn joined the program as a running backs coach after guiding Oregon to one of the nation’s best offenses.

Trey McNutt would be in good hands if he joins the Buckeyes. Furthermore, Ohio State hopes to ride this wave of success into the 2024-25 season and beyond.

Ohio State had one of the top offenses in the country in 2023-24. Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison Jr. were key contributors to the team.

McCord passed for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns with a QBR of 83.8. Meanwhile, Harrison recorded 1,211 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 67 receptions. Ohio State is losing both of its top performers. McCord transferred to Syracuse, while Harrison began his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals.

The team boasts a strong returning lineup, including TreVeyon Henderson, a senior running back. He finished the year with 926 running yards and 11 touchdowns. With his leadership, it is doubtful that the Buckeyes will remain a force.

With a new staff and player roster, Ohio State hopes to return to the top of the Big 10 in 2024-25. It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the spring and summer proceed with their endeavors.
