5-Star Jeremiah Smith Shares What Clinched His Commitment To Ohio State

Jeremiah Smith, a five-star receiver, signed his national letter of intent with the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday on early signing day.

Smith was the top-ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2024, not just in his home state of Florida. Smith had been committed to the Buckeyes for nearly a year, but a tempting offer from the Miami Hurricanes heightened the significance of Wednesday’s announcement. Smith spoke with Rivals recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr. after signing with Ohio State to discuss his decision.

“It came down to a close call between Miami and Ohio State,” Smith went on to say. “But you know I just go with my gut feeling, just go who’s developing receivers into first-rounders so that’s who I went with.”

Following his declaration, Smith reportedly told The Athletic’s Manny Navarro that he chose the Buckeyes over the Hurricanes “in the final two minutes.” Smith stated that Ohio State’s commitment to its players in all facets of their lives was what pushed them over the top for him.

“The way they care about their players on and off the field,” added Smith. “They are among the best for their players.” Up in Ohio, it’s a family. They’ll have their players around for Thanksgiving and eat with them and stuff like that. So, yeah, there’s definitely a brotherhood up there in Columbus.”

On Wednesday, four five-star recruits signed national letters of intent with Ohio State. Cornerback Aaron Scott Jr., receiver Mylan Graham, and edge Eddrick Houston will join Smith in Columbus.
