5 players have been linked since Rooney’s appointment: Birmingham City transfer news

Birmingham City had a busy summer transfer window, and based on all indications, they’ll have another busy one in January.

Wayne Rooney has just been named as Birmingham City’s next manager.

He takes John Eustace’s post and is tasked with advancing Blues. And almost immediately following his hiring, rumors of potential new hires began to circulate; one of these rumors was that Rooney may raid his old club Derby County.

First, TEAMtalk said that Rooney is expected to receive a substantial transfer budget in January and that he is interested in Louie Sibley, Liam Thompson, Max Bird, and Eiran Cashin, all of whom play for Derby.

Since Rooney took over, there have also been rumors that Birmingham City is interested in Jack Butland, according to Alan Nixon.

The former Manchester United and player for England has seen his career take off in Scotland after agreeing to a four-year contract with Rangers in the summer. Nixon, however, cautions that Rooney might have to wait until the summer if he wants to have him.

Jordan James, on the other hand, was said to be moving last month.

The Welsh international might very possibly regain his starting spot under Rooney because Eustace didn’t always favor him. Blackburn Rovers, a Championship opponent of the Blues, are reportedly interested in making a move for James at some stage in 2019.
