Birmingham City will play Wrexham in the EFL League One on Monday, September 16 at 8 p.m. at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, which will be sold out.

The two parties are meeting for the first time in nearly 18 years. Birmingham won 4-1 in the Carabao Cup in September 2006, the two sides’ last meeting.

Both are now vying for promotion to the Championship and are considered two of the favourites to compete for the three promotion berths this season. Wrexham lead the league standings, with Birmingham in fourth.

Blues last played on Tuesday, September 3, when their game against Exeter City was cancelled due to international call-ups. Wrexham went on to comfortably overcome Shrewsbury Town before hosting and defeating Salford City in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.

Birmingham City injury news

Alfie Chang and Josh Williams were not on the Blues’ squad list, which was submitted to the EFL. Chang has been sidelined for a year due to a serious knee injury, and because he is beyond the age of 21, he has been excluded. The same goes for Josh Williams, who spent last season on loan at Cheltenham Town.

Luke Harris was pulled from international duty, and neither his club nor his country have clarified his situation. Lee Buchanan is set to return to training this month after suffering an injury during the preseason. Keshi Anderson got injured against Fulham in the Carabao Cup and will be out for several ‘weeks’. Former captain Dion Sanderson has also been sidelined for several weeks due to injury.

Out: Alfie Chang, Dion Sanderson, Lee Buchanan, and Josh Williams.

Doubt: Ethan Laird, and Luke Harris

Wrexham injury news

Andy Cannon, a midfielder, was absent against Shrewsbury and Salford City due to ‘fatigue’. Last season, the 28-year-old contributed 11 goals in 35 games, helping them win promotion.

Talisman Elliot Lee needed to consult a specialist due to a recent injury. Manager Phil Parkinson characterized it as ‘nothing severe’, but Wrexham will be hoping one of their key players is available. George Dobson was absent against Salford City due to a dead leg, and will be evaluated closer to kickoff.

Following their summer transfer transaction, Wrexham have two spots available in their squad and will assess Anthony Forde’s health. Forde was not named to their team, but he did play 68 minutes of EFL Trophy midweek.

“It’s the next league game coming up, we’ve got an extra couple of days to prepare for it, which I think is good for us because we’ve had one or two knocks,” Parkinson told the official YouTube channel.

“Dobbo had a dead leg and needed to be rested tonight, Elliot has a minor issue, so there are three or four situations where those extra two days will be extremely beneficial, and I don’t believe the game requires any buildup.

Out: Anthony Forde.

Doubt: Andy Cannon, Gorge Dobsson, and Elliot Lee.
