4 pitchers who will make more valuable depth to Phillies rotation in 2024

Even though the starting rotation is set, the Phillies are still looking into pitching depth possibilities for next season.

At the present, the Philadelphia Phillies rotation appears to be set for 2024, but the offseason is still young, and a free agent signing or trade could change everything in an instant. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, after all, is still unsigned. We can all fantasize, right?

If the season began today, the Phillies’ five-man rotation would look remarkably similar to what we saw last season, with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Taijuan Walker, Ranger Suárez, and Cristopher Sánchez all penciled in to start in 2024.

Injuries are always a factor for any baseball team, and you should never count out a prospect who shows all of the signals in Spring Training that he or she belongs with the big club. However, who boards the team jet in Clearwater to start the season in Philadelphia is always open to change. The best baseball teams have depth in their rotation.

Dave Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations, has named a couple of those candidates at various stages this offseason.

“The depth isn’t really as important until you get to the season, so we’ve got a lot of time until we start, until the end of March,” Dombrowski said during the Winter Meetings, according to Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “But we talked about Covey potentially, let’s see how Abel progresses, we’ve got Nelson, but yeah, ideally, we would continue to add in that regard.”

While some of these players have already played for the Phillies and have prospective positions set for 2024, others are banging on the door for a chance to make a mark with the 2024 Phillies. Let’s take a closer look at four players that could contribute to the Phillies’ rotation next year.
