3 Packers on Thin Ice Following Buccaneers Loss

After winning three straight games and four of five, the Green Bay Packers have dropped two straight games to fall to 6-8 on the season and out of the postseason picture.

Green Bay has lost all of its momentum after a great month and has deteriorated in their progress. After two disappointing losses, what appeared to be a promising rebuilding attempt has lost some traction.

Green Bay’s defense was blasted to shreds against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, prompting many to demand for the firing of defensive coordinator Joe Barry. Naturally, he leads our list of three Packers who are on shaky ground following that defeat.

3 Packers on Thin Ice After Loss to Buccaneers

1. Joe Barry

Matt LaFleur’s worst flaw has been his devotion to his coaching staff. Clearly, he is a people person, but the NFL is a business at the end of the day. His defensive and special teams coordinators have let him down at every turn, and he’s demonstrated little ability to hire the appropriate people for the position.

Barry should never have obtained the position in the first place. He was granted a third chance after failing in his prior two stints as defensive coordinator. He continues to screw up with the Packers, as his units were shredded against Tampa Bay. His play calls and concepts are exceedingly passive and result in yardage losses. To say he’s on thin ice is an understatement.

2. Quay Walker/De’Vondre Campbell

The Packers have made significant investments in their middle linebacker position. Nonetheless, both Quay Walker and De’Vondre Campbell are coming off games that cast doubt on their long-term ability to play the position.

Campbell owes the Packers a lot of money next year, so he’s not going anywhere. On Sunday, he appeared to be far too slow and was burned on several close passes as a result. Walker possesses the athleticism that Campbell lacks, but he is oblivious to what is going on on the field. He is frequently out of place or is duped by imposters.

3. Romeo Doubs

Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson are the Packers’ budding stars. The trio’s skill sets complement each other beautifully as well. What does this mean for Romeo Doubs, who started the season as the number two?

Doubts might start next season as low as the fourth wide receiver. When you consider the potential progress of Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft, he’ll slip even lower in the pecking order. His playing time is in jeopardy, and he must work hard to keep it.
