25-year-old BE close to signing with…

Tristan Sailor, a Brisbane Broncos back, is on the verge of signing with Super League club Leigh Leopards after being on the radar of numerous clubs.

The 25-year-old, who had a lengthy absence from the game due to off-field issues at the end of his time with the Dragons, is still under contract with Red Hill for next season.

When offered the chance to play first-grade football, he took advantage of his QLD Cup form and appeared in a few games while Reece Walsh was unavailable for the Broncos.

His club debut was a remarkable effort in Round 13 for the club, and he even outperformed himself in the year’s last regular season game against the Melbourne Storm.

Sailor is close to signing with the Leigh Leopards, according to Yorkshire Live, after various media, including Rugby League Live, stated that he had been offered to several Super League clubs and was on their radar.

It is thought that talks have been going on behind the scenes.

Adrian Lam will coach him at the Leopards, where he will join overseas quota players Tom Amone, John Asiata, Edwin Ipape, Ricky Leutele, Matt Moylan, Ben Nakubuwai, and Kai O’Donnell, as well as former Sydney Roosters playmaker Lachlan Lam.

Sailor was dubbed a “real footballer” by Broncos coach Kevin Walters after signing a contract extension with the club in July.

“Tristan has been really impressive since joining us at the start of the preseason, he is a real footballer and he has worked hard and now he is reaping the rewards for that dedication,” added Walters.

“He’s been playing some fantastic footy in Cup, and then he’s stepped up when we’ve needed him in first grade and done a fantastic job for his team.”

“He brings a lot off the field as well around the group and I’m sure his dad (Wendell) and all his family will be filled with pride that he is continuing on their legacy here at the Broncos – it’s just a really good news story.”
