2026 WR talks the Georgia offer and pre-existing contacts in Athens

He picked up an offer from the Bulldogs last week.

Last week, a new 2026 wide receiver made an offer.

Jordon Gidron, a 6-foot-2 prospect from Columbia, South Carolina, had formed a bond with James Coley during his brief time at South Carolina. Those two met on a Gamecocks Junior Day. Coley evidently liked what he saw in their brief contacts, since Georgia made an offer to Gidron last week.

“I was working out when my head coach approached me and said they had an opportunity for me. They stated Coley was on vacation, so I couldn’t speak with him at the moment, but he wanted to make me an offer. “I was just really surprised,” Gidron remarked. “I was just so excited. That was a squad I admired growing up.”

That may appear to be an unusual response from a Gamecocks fan, but there is a backstory.

Gidron grew up playing Pop Warner football in the neighborhood. One of his teammates was the younger brother of Channing Tindall, a former Georgia linebacker. He had the opportunity to witness Tindall throughout his childhood and high school career, when he saw him make the transition from Georgia to the NFL.

“I knew him growing up, so it was a school I had always enjoyed. “They’ve always been good, so I was very excited when I heard the news,” Gidron remarked. “I played Pop Warner with his younger brother, so I’d always see him. He made a commitment to Georgia, and I followed him throughout his time there. I was quite excited when he got to the Dolphins. “I’ve been watching Channing since before he arrived in Georgia.”

Because of this relationship, Gidron had an early interest in Georgia.

In reality, he and his family planned to travel to Athens for Kirby Smart’s youth camps, according to a photo Gidron posted when announcing the offer. Gidron attended those Georgia events on several occasions and is now ready to return as a legitimate recruitment target.

“Coach Smart used to do kid camps. I believe I did two of those, and I had the opportunity to meet him and take a picture with him when I was younger,” Gidron explained. “We went down to Georgia for two of those. I have definitely been there a few times. My high school even went down there for a 7-on-7 game, so I’ve been up there a few times.”

Gidron has already scheduled spring visits with Florida State, Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina State, Duke, and Indiana.

He intends to squeeze Georgia in there at some time so that he can expand on his early interactions with Coley.

“Coley was in South Carolina. I spoke with him during my Junior Day trip to South Carolina. I messaged him to congratulate him on his new job at Georgia. I haven’t talked to him much since he moved to Georgia, but we had that relationship before he arrived,” he added. “He seems to be a good coach.

We discussed his extensive expertise and the many talented receivers he has tutored. He simply looked at my tape and discussed me as a player and how he wanted me. I definitely think he is a terrific coach, and hearing about his experience is my favorite part.
