Lampard was sacked by Everton earlier this season and is yet to return to management, but his former assistant Jody Morris believes he could be a good fit for Coventry.

Jody Morris, a former Derby County assistant, has invited Frank Lampard to join Coventry City if the former Chelsea captain is offered a managerial position.

Lampard is presently in the hunt to succeed Mark Robins, and if he gets the job, he may want to surround himself with some familiar faces at the CBS Arena.

Morris worked as Lampard’s deputy at Pride Park, alongside first-team coach Chris Jones, who had previously worked as a fitness coach for Chelsea. The two played an important role in coaching the Rams, who reached the Championship play-off final under Lampard’s leadership in 2019, but were defeated by Aston Villa.

Morris, 45, told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan mid-morning show that he likes Lampard. After working with him, I believe he is a manager or coach who wants to better players. I believe he is also a thinking manager, and I am confident that he will be able to do a good job for Coventry.”

Morris, a former Chelsea midfielder who played 124 league appearances after progressing through the club’s junior systems, had worked with Lampard at Derby and Chelsea before taking over as manager of Swindon Town in 2023. When asked if he would take the opportunity to join Lampard at Coventry as his number two, Morris replied: “Well, yeah, but that’s up to Frank isn’t it, and quite a few things would have to align.”

Simon Jordan has raised misgivings about Frank Lampard’s managing ability, saying, “I’d be intrigued to see what Frank does because my mind is made up about Frank. I used to think he’d be a great manager, but now I’m not so sure.

Jordan also questioned Lampard’s time at Everton, saying: “I thought the Everton job was a difficult job, but I believe if he had stayed at Everton, they would have been relegated, so I don’t know what that tells you.”
