On Thursday night, a highly rated linebacker changed his mind about his pledge to Nebraska.

Dawson Merritt of Blue Valley High School in Stillwell, Kansas, stated that he will no longer attend the Alabama Crimson Tide and instead go to Nebraska.

Even after the premier edge rusher committed to Alabama in late June, the Cornhuskers continued to extensively recruit him. The announcement is a significant recruiting victory for Matt Rhule and his staff.

Merritt is ranked a four-star prospect by all four major recruiting firms. He is the 20th commit to Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class.

On November 7, he received his first offer from the program. He has subsequently visited Lincoln several times and will be in town for the Wisconsin Badgers game on November 23. He was also able to visit town for a Colorado Buffaloes game back in September.

His presence is already being felt, as Nebraska’s class jumped from 24th to 19th in the overall rankings.
