Chiedozie Ogbene, a wide player for Ipswich Town, has been named the FAI Senior Men’s International Player of the Year.
The focus is on Ogbene’s performances between June 2023 and 2024, when he was a regular for the Boys in Green. As a result, he won the award for the second consecutive year, defeating Southampton’s injured shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu and Brighton’s brilliant young striker Evan Ferguson.
The ceremony took place soon before Ireland defeated Finland 1-0 in Nations League B yesterday night, with Ferguson’s thunderous header securing all three points for his team in Dublin. Szmodics started the game, and Town teammate Dara O’Shea came on as a late substitute.
Ogbene, of course, did not play after injuring his Achilles in the Blues’ 4-3 defeat at Brentford last month. He is anticipated to miss the remainder of the campaign as a result.
The award will provide a lift to the 24-cap international, who is keeping a positive attitude on the sidelines before commencing his rehabilitation process.
