Feliciano López is preparing for Rafa Nadal’s farewell at the Davis Cup in Málaga.
Feliciano López, in his new role ‘from the other side of the industry’, did not hold back in expressing his delight that Rafa Nadal chose to say goodbye by competing in the Davis Cup Finals. “I must admit that we are very fortunate that Rafa is retiring playing in the Davis Cup, doing so in Málaga and in his home country,” according to the native of Toledo.
He went on to say that Rafa Nadal’s announcement “captured all the attention; we knew this was going to happen, but the Davis Cup itself is very important, and I don’t think this celebration is going to overshadow the competition, especially since Rafa doesn’t want to hear anything about that,” emphasizing the Mallorcan’s humility throughout his career.
Feliciano López, the current Davis Cup Finals director, has now highlighted this absurdity. “Almost everyone wants to be present for his departure. As you are aware, Novak Djokovic expressed an interest in attending; I believe he mentioned it on Instagram, as did Andy Murray. As far as I know, everyone wants to be there. “There are many players and athletes from Spain and around the world who want to share that moment,” he said.
“And I’m not sure if we’ll have seats for everyone because there are so many. Imagine all of the tennis players from his period wanting to go, as well as the number of fans that want to attend—we’d need a stadium like the Bernabéu to accommodate them all. The Martín Carpena Stadium in Málaga is in good condition and aesthetically pleasing. “I’m sure there will be a great atmosphere, and it will be a very special moment for him,” Feliciano López said.
While they are anticipated to arrange the farewell ceremony, the former tennis star did not want to give too many specifics, “because it is confidential right now.” We’re arranging something incredibly unique for him. We must honor his work and legacy, but I cannot provide additional information at this time. We will strive to live up to what he has given us.”
Furthermore, Feliciano López discussed what Rafa Nadal leaves behind. “He has accomplished unthinkable feats for an athlete and has the ability to capture the hearts of all types of people. For them, it will be difficult, but for someone like myself or David, who has been by his side for so long and has shared both happy and bad times with him, the feeling will be even stronger,” he added.
