The entire NFL world is monitoring the Kansas City Chiefs as Tuesday’s NFL Trade Deadline approaches.

Kansas City has already made two huge acquisitions, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and EDGE Josh Uche, but that hasn’t stopped many from speculating on who might be next as the Chiefs attempt to complete a rare three-peat.

And it turns out that some in the league believe they know who Brett Veach’s next target may be.

In an article published on Saturday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter links the Chiefs to New Orleans Saints standout cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is attracting trade interest ahead of the deadline. According to Schefter, “some sources” have believed that a move for Kansas City is still in the works, with “Lattimore or another player” as potential targets.

Following Jaylen Watson’s injury, it’s no surprise that Kansas City has been linked to a ballhawking cornerback. With New Orleans’ season rapidly deteriorating at 2-6, the Saints make a perfect struggling trade partner for the Chiefs, who might send an extra choice in an upcoming draft to a team that must consider blowing things up.

The one major issue with Lattimore is not his contract, but his recent track record of health. The four-time Pro Bowler only appeared in 17 games over the previous two seasons, and he’s now expected to miss his second game of 2024 with another hamstring injury in Week 9.

Lattimore’s uncertain availability is a huge roadblock in trade talks, but it may also allow Veach to acquire a true star for less than usual. With numerous alternatives at cornerback if Watson returns, the Chiefs have depth in case the veteran’s health becomes an issue down the line.

A trade would be risky, but the benefit when considering the playoffs is apparent.
