The Boston Bruins should sign this forward immediately.
The Boston Bruins’ start to the season has been far from ideal, with a 5-6-1 record. Their offensive troubles have been a major cause for their slow start, so it is clear that they could use a boost right now.
The trade market is one option for improving their forward group, but they also have a training camp professional tryout (PTO) acquisition in Tyler Johnson.
With a projected cap space of $1.1 million, the Bruins can sign Johnson to an inexpensive one-year contract. Given the underperformance of numerous of their forwards this season, formally signing a veteran forward like Johnson might provide the middle six with the much-needed lift.
Last season, Johnson demonstrated that he can still produce at the NHL level, scoring 17 goals and 31 points in 67 games with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Bruins would benefit greatly from adding this type of secondary scoring. His flexibility to play both center and wing would make him an important addition to their forward lineup.
With the Bruins currently floundering, signing a talent like Johnson should be seriously considered. They need offense, which Johnson has supplied throughout his career.
