£2 million Birmingham City player eyeing summer transfer interest

Birmingham City center back According to the Daily Record, Scottish club Rangers are interested in Dion Sanderson.

Last summer, Birmingham City signed defender Sanderson on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell at St Andrews.

Following his £2 million move from Wolves, the 24-year-old was anointed the Blues’ captain. Sanderson hasn’t quite reached the peaks he demonstrated during his brief spell, but he has still played 39 games for the club across all competitions.

He is under contract until the summer of 2027, but as the transfer window approaches, Sanderson is reportedly attracting interest from others.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have long admired the Birmingham City centre-back and will keep him on their radar as the summer window approaches. He was initially a target when Michael Beale was in charge at Ibrox, but he is still highly regarded north of the border.

Rangers are in need of new centre-back options, so it will be interesting to see if their long-standing love for Sanderson translates into something concrete this summer.

What could the summer hold?

As things are, Birmingham City can’t afford to make too firm summer plans.

The Blues are still striving to avoid relegation from the Championship, and their blueprints will alter depending on which tier they are in. That will be resolved soon, with a final-day match against Norwich City just around the corner.

It also hinges greatly on who will take the helm, with Tony Mowbray still on medical leave. Gary Rowett has taken over in his absence following Mark Venus’ problems.

Such uncertainty makes it difficult to forecast what the summer will bring, but with Rangers interested in Sanderson, it will be interesting to watch if they follow through on their long-held affection.

This season has been difficult for the former Wolves player, but at his best, he has proven to be an excellent Championship centre-back.
